Pretty cool, but I don’t quite like that watch to be honest.

MarquitoxJuly 20th, 2009 at 7:25 pm

It’s cool, but if I were you, I’ll remove the notifications and the watch.

Jayayess1190July 20th, 2009 at 7:36 pm

I like it, keep everything.

MiataMSJuly 20th, 2009 at 11:02 pm

keep the notifications, that’s what keeps me dropping the splash so i can see what’s going on.

I love it all except the stopwatch though. It’s a great idea, just not the right graphic.

Dorian17xDJuly 21st, 2009 at 2:35 pm

I’ll prefer it to keep it simple, because the watch and the notifications makes me feel more like if I already entered into my Ubuntu account and Ubuntu is still booting up :S

That’s actually really cool where did you get the ambient music playing in the background. I’m not sure whether its intentional but it makes more sense to have ambient music in the boot process like this than a drum roll after. I wonder whether plymouth supports that.

It’s a very elegant boot sreen. Great work. I hope it gets approved.

“Now performing a check of your storage disks” should obviously be “Now performing a check of your hard disks” or something, and I’m not sure how early you’ll have GNOME and D-Bus/libnotify available, but it looks really good.

paraponziJuly 22nd, 2009 at 10:36 am

I like it, but the watch is bad, the wallpaper inappropriate and the notifications suck. Also the ambient music is out of tune.

Just kidding, I like it :-)

This looks great, but I still prefer my scrolling wall of white text on a black screen over such aesthetic pleasures.

Are you related to Nicky Sobotka?

matelotgeekJuly 22nd, 2009 at 2:03 pm

A bit too “complicated”:
take out that tree branch thing.
remove the logos in the indicator popups (ones on the right)

aslambilalJuly 22nd, 2009 at 2:59 pm

Looks good, but would it slow down boot time compared to the simple bar? ( by more than say 5 seconds? )

PaulRayIsMeJuly 22nd, 2009 at 3:45 pm

This is gorgeous. I’d install it now if it were available.

darko28July 22nd, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Wow this is simply an elegant and sleek boot up. I like!

CatFiestaJuly 22nd, 2009 at 5:14 pm

complicated, confusing and it going to require a lot of shit loaded before you can even show that.

Notice apples boot screen is a 128×128 grayscale image and a small animation AND ITS FUCKING CLASSIER THAN THIS SHIT

rufsketch1July 22nd, 2009 at 5:43 pm

How do you know it’s going to require a lot of shit loaded? I can easily imagine this being done with one background image, one panel image, and one small icon animated by an assembly program.

belgiantoffeeJuly 22nd, 2009 at 7:34 pm

Looks wonderful, really good. Is the boot time affected at all?

vojislavsimovicJuly 22nd, 2009 at 7:58 pm

Hmmm, Canonical should buy the rights to Massive Attack’s song Teardrop, and make a clone of Dr.House intro. That would get some attention for sure

gottabeandrewJuly 22nd, 2009 at 8:36 pm

That’d be brilliant.

8syncJuly 22nd, 2009 at 9:23 pm

Now that is a thing of beauty.
